How to Copy Gmail Messages to your New Gmail Account

If you are moving from one Gmail account to another, you can easily copy all your Gmail messages from the old account to the new one using the built-in Mail Fetcher program of Gmail.
The Mail Fetcher program, available for both Gmail and Google Apps for Gmail accounts, will download messages from one account and copy them to your other account using POP access. It works for old Gmail messages and also any new messages that arrive after you have set up the Mail Fetcher.

Copy Gmail Messages to another Gmail Address

  1. In your new email account, go to Gmail Settings -> Accounts (link) and choose “Check mail from other accounts (using POP3)”.
  2. Click “Add a POP3 mail account you own” and enter your old Gmail address in the input box. Click Next.
  3. Enter your Gmail password and check the settings “Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server” and “Label incoming messages” to easily identify emails fetched from the old address.
Add the account and Gmail will start copying your old messages to the new address.

Copy Email Messages from Google Apps to a Gmail Address

If you are moving messags from an @gmail.com address to @yourcompany.com address (hosted on Google Apps), the steps for Mail Fetcher are mostly the same except that in Step 3, you need to enter the following values:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.gmail.com (Port: 995)
Username: your email address (username@your_domain.com)
Password: your Gmail password (Google Apps)
Click the Add Account button to and Gmail will automatically fetch old and new messages from the old Google Apps address to your new Gmail Address.
