The Indian Calendar
There are two types of calendar's in India .
- Shaka Samvat Calender - This calender was created by king Shalivahana of Satavahana Dynasty. People in South India and Maharashtra follow this calender. The Government has declared this as the National calender of festival
- Vikarmi Samvat Calender - This calender was established by the emperor Vikramadithya. People in Western and North Indian follow this calender. It is the official calender of Bangladesh and Nepal. There are twelve months in each of this calender. Each month is divided into two pakshas Each containing fifteen days. Each month begins with a bright fortnight when the moon gradually becomes bigger and brighter. The last day of the bright fortnight is a full moon day or poornima. This is followed by dark fortnight . when moon gradually wanes and disappears The last day of paksha is amavasya
